Honing marble is a process whereby removes a stone’s polish leaving it with a matt finish. The benefit of having a hone finish is etch marks, scratches are not that visible, and helps with slip resistance in wet areas.
This procedure can be done on benchtops, vanties, floors and walls, marble baths, pool surrounds, shower bases, bathroom floors, etc
There are two methodologies in honing marble stone floor tiles and it all comes down to the severity condition of the stone floor and the depth of the scratches and etches.
Marble hone – This process removes the polish, light scratches and etches does not require lippage removal as we utilise a variety of honing grit powders and then bring it up to a desired hone of your choice low, medium, high, matt finish. There is no dust.
Marble honing resurfacing – This process removes the polish, deep scratches and etches, we will require removing lippage and honing the material. Honing essentially means sanding.
The surface is honed away to the required depth. It is generally done wet, to eliminate dust. This procedure uses a descending industrial diamond pads to work the stone down through the grades to achieve a uniform matt finish. This is a similar process to remove scratch from a timber floor.
The next step uses an ascending industrial diamond pads to work the stone up through the grades to achieve the desired hone of your choice low, medium, high matt finish.
